invasion of the crabs

This is a quick snapshot I took about a month ago when I was on Lido Key for a walk.  There is a park at at the southern end of the Key that is perfect for walking.  The beach is narrow and long and it ends at a small point were the water from a Mangrove forest (is forest the right term?) flows into the bay.  Right at that point there were hundreds, maybe thousands, of these tiny crabs crawling over each other to feed on whatever they could find on the beach.  I guess I must have arrived just after some sort of mass breeding had taken place.   It was very creepy.  Like something from a low budget horror movie. The fact that this activity was confined to just 20 or 30 feet of beach made it even weirder to stumble upon.
