There are a pair of Shrike making a nest in the top of a tree that is right next to the sidewalk at the Celery Fields. I often see them perched on one of the branches just a few feet away from passing humans.
Here is what allaboutbirds.org says about the Shrike:
“It feeds on small birds, mammals, and insects, sometimes impaling them on spines or barbed wire fences.”
Good grief. Actually, that is pretty impressive considering the small size of this bird.
