I am putting the birding tag on this because I got these at the Raymond Ave observation deck located at the Celery Fields in Sarasota.
It was identified as a Corn Snake by someone who was there. Also know as the Red Rat Snake. I would guess that it was about 5 feet long. It had climbed onto the observation deck and was in the shade under the railing that runs along the walkway.
The was a young woman present who said she worked at a nature center and that she loved snakes. She picked it up and let it wind itself around her. Ugh.
