This must be a good breeding year for wading birds. I see a lot of immature Little Green, Little Blue, and Tricolored Herons lately. Usually the Little Green Herons are difficult to get close to but the young ones are a little bolder (or haven’t learned to avoid humans yet).
This one was sitting on the railing of a boardwalk and let me get quite close before he flew away. It looks fluffed up because it had just vigorously shaken off some water and I was able to get the photo before the feathers had a chance to flatten down again.
