Urban Osprey

Many of the parks around Sarasota have Osprey platforms. There is one a couple hundred feet from my house on top of a pole that is next to a ball field.  This photo was taken at a small park/boat launch on City Island.  The Osprey platform is next to the boat launch and just opposite that is a tiny island of trees that serve as a rookery for Egrets, Herons, and Pelicans.  I don’t go there often because I’m usually out in the mornings and the light is not good that time of day, but it can be fun to be there just to hear the honking and squawking of the large birds when they get territorial and have to chase off competitors for their branch.

The Osprey in the photo sit quietly on their platform carefully watching the chaos of the rookery.
